Personal Checks for First Account
~ This was posted on January 31, 2009
My daughter is a sophomore in high school and recently got her very first part time job. It’s nothing big – just enough to give her some extra spending money from the hours she puts in on the weekends – but it’s a big step in beginning to show her how to save and spend responsibly. In order to help her do that, we have opened up a checking account at our family bank in her name. She has had a savings account since she was a baby into which we have deposited the money that she has received as gifts from family and friends throughout the years. But a checking account will allow her to start learning how to balance a checkbook which is a skill that is best taught early, in my opinion.
To celebrate this major milestone in my daughter’s life we allowed her to order checks of her own choosing – something that is personal to her. Through a private printer we found online we were able to browse through an extensive selection of personal checks with all different colors, fonts, and styles, and even photo checks that could be chosen from among the selection or personalized to include a photograph of your own.
My daughter picked stylish, fun checks that were appropriate for her age and something that would get her excited about having her own checking account. From my own perspective, I was completely surprised by how much variety there was to choose from in the world of personal checks. Having always ordered bank checks directly from my bank I didn’t know there were other options; and I most certainly didn’t know that it was so affordable to order checks in this manner. And so, when I am in need of checks in the future, I will join my daughter in choosing personal checks online.
