Choosing Checks for My Business, Part I

I am a self-proclaimed pack rat; and for as long as I can remember I have horded everything from clothes to furniture, thinking that if I threw just one thing out I would - by way of Murphy’s Law – need it the very next day. This is the behavior that ruled my world for many years and eventually I ran out of space in my townhouse that was never meant to hold as much stuff as I had forced within its confines. When I got married my husband and I bought a single family house and he sat me down for what I considered to be a pack rat intervention. He essentially told me, in no uncertain terms, that under no circumstances was all of my stuff accompanying us in our new life together. The jig was up. And so I turned over a new leaf and prior to the move I set about getting rid of all of those things that were not necessary in my life. I had to throw a lot away due to disrepair but most of it I gave away. And then there were those things that I thought I could make some money on if I put them up for sale. And that’s how I found eBay.

If collecting stuff was the behavior that defined the first half of my life than my obsession with eBay may define the second part. I was able to sell so many of my things on this amazing website that I began to get really good at the actual execution of it. I was so good, in fact, that I started accepting things from friends who had charged me with selling their items. I would take pictures with my new camera in my mock “studio,” post the items with descriptions and wait. It was the easiest money to be made. And that’s when my business was born. It was time to get serious and I set about putting together all of the items that would legitimize my business including my new business checks. More in the next post…
