Checks for My Mid-Life Crisis, Part I

A mid-life crisis is something that we’ve all heard about; and probably something that most of us expect to have happen to us at one time or another. But I always associated such an occurrence with purchasing an expensive sports car or some other extravagance or unusual behavior that I would have reserved for my later years. But here I am – in what would typically be referred to as the middle of a life – and I have no desire to speed around in an expensive car, or pierce a part of my body or any other thing that would normally be expected during such a time.

Instead I have taken up a hobby; albeit a hobby that not many people would consider typical of someone my age – riding horses. I have loved horses my whole life but had never had any formal training on how to ride them; I only admired them from afar. But now, with some time on my hands since I had started working part time instead of the full time schedule that I had been doing for twenty years, I was ready to take horseback riding to the next level. I connected with an equestrian center near my home and I’ve been learning to ride ever since. I love everything about it – including the physical wellbeing it gives me; I feel young again!

So in love with this new activity in my life that I have become one of those people who has proudly displayed my hobby for all the world to see – including in the use of my checks.

Personal checks were never anything I gave any thought to other than when I had to order checks through my bank when I was out of them. But I soon discovered that there were other options beyond the traditional bank checks – including personal checks that displayed horses in the design. More in the next post…
