Why Bank Checks Aren’t Really Convenient

Many banking institutions tout their in-house checks as a convenient offering to help their customers enjoy their services. Unfortunately, when bank checks are examined a little more closely, the convenience isn’t generally all it’s cracked up to be.

While it’s true that bank checks will get the job done, they do have some potential downfalls that make them not necessarily the best choice for every customer. The down side of using bank drafts as personal checks for business is found in:

The selection available – Bank checks generally come in only one or two styles. When a little more selection is desired, it makes more sense to go to private printers who make ordering available online. Here consumers will find literally dozens of styles to fit almost any personality. If the “right” checks are not located, consumers can even create their own using photo checks.

The lack of customization features – Most bank checks do not come with customization ability. This means clients are stuck with the colors, appearance and typefaces the bank selects and that’s it. When more room to play with the appearance of checks is desired, going online and ordering will provide freedom of choice.

The absence of ordering freedom – When bank checks need to be ordered, most banks require that customers come in to drop off the forms. This means a special trip will have to be made and standing or sitting in line will almost always result. Ordering online helps customers cut out the trip and the hassles.

The pricing and hidden costs – Bank checks can actually cost a great deal more than consumers realize. When the fees are added into the mix, the real cost of checks can be quite a bit higher than anticipated.

Bank checks aren’t as convenient as they are often billed to be. When a better option is desired, ordering checks from a private printer is the better choice.
